Donīt know if any of you have been reading about this but as a reaction to the partition started by BadPsychics.com, the goverment has decided to repeal the "Fraudulent mediums act from 1951" in April 2008.

The Fraudulent mediums act from 1951 will be repealed from April 2008 by the Consumer protection for unfair trading regulations 2007 (CPRs), which implement the unfair commercial practices Directive (UCPD).

The CPRs includes the rules prohibiting conduct which misleads the average consumer and thereby causes , or is likley to cause him to take a transactional decision he would not have taken otherwise.

Although most consumers would arguably not be misled by someone claiming he can contact the dead, but this sort of conduct would still be unfair under the CPRs if it decieves the average member of the group it is directed at , or a clearly identifiable group of consumers who maybe vunerable to this type of practise.

Unlike the Act, there is no requirement in the CPRs to prove an "intent to deceive". This means that where practices are aimed at vulnerable consumers or average members of particular groups, it should be easier to take action against fraudulent mediums than under the Act.

Hi Phantom!

Germany needs legislation like this but it will take a while for them to react to the growing number of supposed "Mediums". A good example of taking vulnerable persons money is a show on TV here where people can call in and talk directly to a variety of mediums. The "Mediums" ask so many questions and make such broad statements ( waiting for reations to see if they're on the right path) and all the time is ticking. You have to pay per Minute or so as long as you are connected to them. And don't kid yourselves. Even though mediums are not talked about in Germany because many find the idea rediculus, this show is making a ton of money.

Hi guys!

i think, I know, which show you mean, TLA. I just donīt remember the name of it... anyway, this so called mediums asking questions to find out if they are on the right path is just the same manner of acting as the ordinary fortune teller on a fair shows it.
Things like that should really be forbidden by law, especially, when there are actually firms like telecom and TV channels, that make their profit from peolpe, that are too naiv or also maybe too desperate, too realize, that this show is only there to make profit and nothing else. Which serious medium would give his/her name for such a hoax?
But also these Guru functions where you have to book seats for a horrendous price, I mean, those "Gurus" earn a fortune with these events!!!! Theyīve got villas, big Limousines and stuff... they have their own merchandise products. scratch This is fraud!!!!
If those people have the gift to heal or help in other kind of ways, then this is a gift, given by God or whoever one believes in, and this gift should be used for the welfare of humans and not for that persons advantage. Evil or Very Mad
I think every country should have a law like this!!!!

This new legislation will only be applicable when a customer is being charged money for a consultation. All these tv/phone/text psychics and mediums are in the business of predicting because that is what people want. I am asked all the time for predictions and explain as patiently as i can every time that it is impossible to predict. Our lives are subject to constant change and we are at liberty to take any decisions or direction at any time we please. A prediction made is subject to constant change. But still there is big business in telling somebody that they will come into money, or find the love of their life next month or whatever. You can be assured that if there was no charging allowed, 99% of these psychics and mediums would stop their "profession" tomorrow.
