Hi all,
I just wanted to ask any of you did you ever manage to visit East Lane Cemetery? I have lived in Watford all of my life but have only recently moved into the Leavesden area and never knew that this cemetery existing until I took the dog for a walk with my mum and she took me there and told me how her and her friends would never step foot in the place as kids... I am fascinated by it now! Located at the dead end of a very dark lane that is rarely used and cannot hardly be driven down, It is definitely worth a visit... There are quite a few gravestones still standing, a few have been moved and a few sunk... my mum tells me it used to be filled with headstones and can't quite work out where they have all gone... a strange thing I noticed was that all of the trees' branches grow downwards to the floor... I didn't realise until I google where I came across a report from Three Rivers Council from July this year was that opposite the main Cemetery there is also another one up an embankment. Also, in this report it stated that a lot of the patients didn't have families as they were deemed as outcasts, so they dug the graves to a depth of 18 feet and place up to 17 bodies in each grave.
It would be great if you could go and visit if you haven't already!
